Atmosphere
You know how you sometimes go to events in the City and it feels as though everyone is wearing a costume and so you do, too? It starts with clothes and the makeup but once you've been corralled like cattle through the door, this costume changes the way that you feel and handle yourself. At Chance Dinners, we demand that you take off your costume.
(Actually...umm...we were talking about your figurative costume, not your literal costume. Please put your clothes back on. No, it's totally cool...)
Chance Dinners are not overly competitive one-upmanshipfests. We are not going to be impressed by what you do or how much money you make, or any other such thickness. The hard currency that you should bring to the table is a sense of adventure, openness, and lively conversation.
Therefore, Chance Dinners has only two rules:
1. Rule Number One of Chance Dinners is that all diners must play nice.
2. Rule Number Two of Chance Dinners is that all diners must play nice.
Diners should never be rude, creepy, loud, drunk, announce that they never actually looked at the menu they chose to eat, or decide that they’d like to eat something different. In short, don’t be THAT diner.
Don't be that person who sends food back just to let his fellow diners know how discerning his palate is. We're all from the City and by nature of the fact that we still live and work here, we are all, necessarily, bad-ass motherfuckers. Congratulations to us! Now, let's be EASY and have fun.
We need to be the best, easiest, most appreciative large group that any chef and waitstaff has ever dealt with. Believe me, we expect something in return. We expect our chefs to cook their asses off, while the ease of our single menu inspires a lot of them to throw in an extra course. They're going to want us to come back, and we need to behave like we want them to invite us, and to go through the trouble of putting together a menu and speaking to us. Most of them look forward to introducing themselves and their dinners to our group. If we can make it as much fun for them as it is for us, our future dinners with them will be that much better.
